The Dreadwood Tavern
The Rose of Requitae
The house is empty and the spotlight is on. She sits on stage, unable to see the empty lounges which are devoid of clients. She knows that these seats would be full if the house was open, but she has sent her staff away for until evening and the house does not open for several hours yet. She sits alone on a chair under the spotlight.
She tunes her harp, one string at a time. She uses her voice to find the right pitch. Soon, she is ready to perform. Her dark hair is positioned delicately, the gold and jade Elven pins holding each twist in position. Her lips and cheeks are rouged, her eyes made smoky with charcoal and lead.
The harp is just right. In this empty house, she begins to play. Around her, the roses bloom.
